Housing

Durham City already has a good range of housing from student accommodation to executive homes.

The County Durham Plan identifies a requirement for at least 5,200 new homes in Durham City by 2030.

The market for housing has remained strong: in the last five to 10 years, the City has witnessed significant location driven demand where the DH1 postcode is a strong selling point. Average house prices in Durham City are the highest in the County.

This demand is projected to increase with the Office for National Statistics forecasting growth in population of 56,700 for the County by 2030 and the majority of this growth is expected in the City itself.

Durham City offers an opportunity for major new housing developments as part of an overall strategy for business growth and a thriving city.
