Quality Of Life

No doubt, Durham City is a “perfect little city” in which to live and work.
It’s not just the stunning World Heritage Site and medieval streets, it’s the parks and riverscapes and the woodland reaching into the heart of the city. Easily walkable, Durham City is compact – if you live and work here, you can leave the car at home for your journey to work.

The county’s rich history has created a legacy of significant heritage assets and Durham City acts as the spiritual centre of the North East. As well as the large festivals such as Lumiere, Brass and the Book Festival, there’s a varied range of events from exhibitions at the University to glass-making workshops to top shows at the Gala Theatre (see events page for more details). Durham City also has the best provision of sports facilities in the county, including an Archery Club

Durham City is a safe place to live and work. In the year to June 2014, Total Recorded Crime in the County was 84% of that for England and Wales as a proportion. There is housing to suit all budgets: from grand detached houses in quiet streets to small flats with river views, Durham City will have something to suit your requirements.
